Stefan Duhr and Philipp Baaske set out to build a company to address challenges researchers were facing with the ultimate goal of helping to move science forward.
NanoTemper was started in 2008 after Stefan and Philipp met at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. At the time, the effect of thermophoresis was not known within the Life Sciences community, but Stefan and Philipp knew that it was important. Realizing the shortcomings of current protein research techniques, they came up with a method, MicroScale Thermophoresis that was enormously sensitive, and would bring researchers one step closer to developing better drugs faster.

Monolith uses MicroScale Thermophoresis (MST) technology to quantify binding events. One partner is typically labeled with a fluorescent dye and becomes an extremely sensitive reporter for all binding interactions. These events, weak or strong, cause a change in MST signal that is easily detected. The results are automatically translated into precise and quantitative Kd values.
Getting these accurate results quickly requires the use of high quality capillaries. Advantages are numerous—minute amounts of samples are analyzed in-solution, under native or close-to-native conditions, and in an immobilization-free environment without the need for purification.

Prometheus characterizes thermal and chemical unfolding under native conditions using nanoDSF technology. Absolutely label-free, nanoDSF precisely and accurately measures the intrinsic fluorescence of a protein while it's being subjected to either chemical or thermal denaturation.
nanoDSF uses high quality capillaries for a number of reasons—only microliters of sample are required, a wide range of concentrations are quickly measured in-solution, multiple conditions are assessed in one run, and hard-to-measure viscous samples are examined with ease.
Just dip a capillary into a sample, place it in Prometheus, and hit start to get Tm, Tonset and Tagg results in minutes. And, if Cm, ΔG and ΔΔG are needed, those can be done too with the same system.
